Yoga Therapy & Somatic Movement

Mischa Hines, C-IAYT, E-RYT500, YACEP

Hello,  I am Mischa Hines, registered yoga teacher, certified yoga therapist and trauma-conscious somatic movement specialist.

In other words, I am a teacher who believes deeply that we each have the tools within us, at this moment, to create a life free from fear and anxiety and full of sustainable joy.

It all started with yoga - I took my first yoga class in 1988 at the Hollywood YMCA. I remember being crammed in a stuffy room with dozens of old rugs on the floor.  I don't remember much about the actual class, but I remember walking out of there feeling like I was floating.  Over the next year or two I tried more classes at other studios and eventually found my way to a more dedicated practice. Why the obsession you ask? Since high school I have struggled with severe (and sometimes debilitating) depression and anxiety. Not wanting to have to be on medication for the rest of my life, I had set a goal for myself to find the resources within myself for my relief.  For ME, yoga was it. I never turned back. Over the years that followed my practice changed as my life and my body changed. Sometimes I would be away from it for a while, but I always found my way back. Through injuries and traumas and successes and joys, yoga was always there to ground me and keep me honest and level.

Teaching since 2009, I am a Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance (E-RYT 500) and am a Certified Yoga Therapist through the International Association of Yoga Therapists (C-IAYY, IAYT.org),   I hold my Advanced Yoga Therapy Certification from Loyola Marymount University Yoga Therapy RX Program (YTRx500) as well as being a Certified Therapeutic Imagery Facilitator with the American Hypnotherapy Association. I have also done extensive trauma-sensitive yoga training through Yoga Warriors International, Connected Warriors and largely I have done extensive Trauma-Sensitive Yoga training with Bessel VanDerKolk, Dave Emerson and Jenn Turner from the Trauma Center at the JRI in Brookline, MA.

Currently I am also pursuing my certification as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner using the work of Peter Levine, expanding my trauma healing modality.

Where you can find me

I currently teach at Black Dog Yoga, Two Hearts Yoga, Ambrosia Treatment Center, Promises Malibu, Malibu Vista & Connected Warriors. I also work privately with students in the San Fernando Valley and Greater Los Angeles areas. I look forward to sharing my love of this practice and it's remarkable benefits with you too!
